Au pairs help out with local "coastal clean-up"

Foreign visitors help clean up American beaches!

On Saturday, September 15th, au pairs from Lamorinda, their American host families and community members from the East Bay dedicated three hours to a community service project at the Berkeley Marina in honor of California Coastal Cleanup Day. The au pairs helped with overall trash and recyclables pickup all around the Berkeley Marina and shoreline. Approximately 17 tons of trash and recyclables were collected in Berkeley.

The California Coastal Cleanup Day is an annual beach and inland waterway cleanup sponsored by the California Coastal Commission. According to the California Coastal Commission, approximately 320 tons of trash and recyclables were collected statewide. It is the state's largest volunteer event, with nearly 60,000 Californians participating in Saturday’s event.

AuPairCare was proud that the au pairs would spend their free time supporting the environment and their adopted community.  “I’ve been living here for almost two years, and I have fallen in love with California,” said Lisa Marie Schulze, an au pair from South Africa. “This event was a great way to contribute to the environment and make California a cleaner place to live.”
