Get Fresh With Some Sex On The Peach

Pimp your Sex on the Beach with some whole fruit love.

Somewhere in a swank club, bathed in black light, vibrating to the heavy bass of Usher, is a chubby, 40-something-year-old guy trying desperately to impress much younger women with how hip he is (no, not me).  I have no concrete proof, but I’m pretty sure he’s the one who talked his friend, the bartender, into inventing Sex on the Beach, just so he could use it as a clever pickup line.  However, in spite of Señor Creepy’s involvement in its creation, Sex on the Beach is a tasty drink.  It’s also a cocktail that benefits from a current trend in restaurants and bars toward using whole, fresh fruit that’s locally sourced, when possible.  Lafayette’s Yankee Pier is one local eatery that’s working the trend with drinks like the , which I got to see up close a few weeks ago.  The Yankee Clipper is an original creation of Head Bartender Julie Feigenson, but there are a number of drinks, like Sex on the Beach, that can be pimped up with some whole fruit love.

A traditional Sex on the Beach is made with Vodka, Peach Schnapps, Cranberry Juice, and Pineapple Juice, with some variations using Orange Juice.  Sex on the Peach replaces the Peach Schnapps with fresh O’Henry peach, which brings a much more complex and deeper peach flavor to the drink.  The result is peach chic.

                                                        Glass

Collins/Highball or any 10-12 oz. glass.  A clear glass is best to show off the drink’s color.

                                                   Preparation

Peel and cube the peach slices and add them to a shaker that’s about a quarter-full of ice.  Add the rest of the ingredients and then shake very vigorously.  A good long, strong shake is important to get as much juice and pulp out of the peach as possible.  Pour the contents into a 10-12 oz. glass that’s about half-full of ice.  A strong shaking tends to make the drink a bit frothy, so you may need to crack the shaker open and pour from the side.  Once the drink is in the glass you should see a pretty, peachy pink color along with suspended pieces of peach pulp.  Garnish with a whole peach slice and enjoy what the birds and the bees hath wrought.
