High School Confidential: How to Stay Sane During Finals
It's nearing the end for the 2010-2011 school year, but that means the worst is yet to come. Have no fear! High School Confidential is here to help you get through the grind of AP and final season.
We’re in the home stretch. Only a few more weeks until the greener pastures of summer and its care free attitude hits us. With that said, it’s also a time of extreme frustration, because like every single May, finals and AP exams are being held over Lamorinda students. It’s almost like every May the “Summer is here!” happiness is killed by the “finals are here” depression. Everyone tends to get their own little bit of senioritis right as the year ends, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Studying for finals and APs can be a lot more bearable than it seems.
Step one. Don’t study at home. It’s so simple, but so effective. When you work at home, there’s just a ton of distraction available. “Why is my Spanish AP so much more important than this Law & Order rerun?” When you work at home you tend to look for ways to not get work done, and that just never feels good. It’s always good to go to a public place like the Lafayette Library to get work done, because you’re not only free from distractions, but there are always a dozen or so other people in the same boat you are.
Everybody has at least one person in every class that helps them get through it, so when it comes to AP’s and finals, finding someone to study with is key. Studying alone can either be really productive or so boring that it just makes anything else interesting by comparison. If you find yourself preferring to go to the dentist over studying, you need to look for someone to study with. Be mindful though, nothing is worse than thinking you spent the last hour studying when you actually just talked about how annoying finals are.
Some people have a superhuman studying ability that makes the coming weeks easy. For those of us not blessed with that talent, it’s the little things that count. Just remember, it’s always a lot better to know that after AP’s, there’s a lull in workload and after finals, there’s no workload. It’s the bottom of the ninth, guys, we didn’t work so hard just to lose it now.
