Okay, No Fizz, But Try This!

This streamlined 30-Second Bartender-version of the Singapore Sling will give you all the key elements without spending a lot of time and money.

Blogging is wonderfully free-associative process.  I was building a blog entry exploring the wonders of the Gin Fizz when a synaptic misfire turned me a few degrees to the left.  I’m still going to do a Fizz entry, but next week because the upshot of my cerebral bird walk is that no matter how great a drink is I just can’t justify ridiculously complex, ingredient-crowded drinks for armchair bartenders mixing at home.  So, the Fizz requires more “research” because I really need to come up with a tasty, yet streamlined and easy recipe.  That is what this blog and 30-Second Bartender are all about!

I do dig Gin and consider it a maligned and misunderstood spirit probably because of its “bathtub” days.  However, Distilled Gin (different from its bathtub-mixed evil twin Compound Gin) can bring a great deal of complexity to a cocktail.  In fact, it’s that fun complexity that drives those very talented professional bartenders to mix such wild ingredients with such layered methodology.  If you’re out at a swanky bar or cool nightclub, drop the seventeen bucks such a drink will cost you and enjoy.  But when entertaining at home, enjoy your company, don’t spend all night behind the bar doing the Mad Scientist bit.  You can still do exotic and complex without going into full-on Booze Geek mode.

For instance, there are few cocktails as exotic as the Singapore Sling, but that exotic allure comes at a hefty price for both the long list of pricey, specialty ingredients and the time to properly mix them into a potable drink. The traditional recipe for the Singapore Sling is a poor fit for a party bar, but this streamlined 30-Second Bartender version will give you all the key elements without spending a lot of time and money.
