Lamorinda Controlled Burn Planned Thursday

Expect to see smoke in the area. In addition to reducing fuels, firefighters are testing early warning sensors.

LAMORINDA, CA — A controlled burn is scheduled for Orinda Oaks Park starting at 10 a.m., according to the Moraga Orinda Fire District.

"This prescribed fire will be closely monitored and is an critical tool in reducing flammable vegetation in the area," the Moraga Police Department said in an advisory. "It will also provide an important test for MOFD's fire sensors that are an important piece of our early warning system for wildland fires."

Residents and people traveling through the area may see or smell smoke from the fire. The smoke may also be visible from a distance.

The Moraga Police Department recommends that residents in the area close their windows to reduce the possibility of smoke entering their homes.

Orinda Oaks Park will remain open during the burn.
