EAST BAY AREA — If your Friday night plans include hoisting a few brews or other favorite drinks with friends, make sure that you've got a plan in place to get home safely. The California Highway Patrol plans an East Bay DUI Checkpoint from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.

The exact location has not been announced to the public, only that it will be somewhere in an unincorporated area of Contra Costa County.

CHP officers plan to check each driver for both alcohol and drugs, and remember that over-the-counter and prescription medications can impair driving, especially when mixed with alcohol.

The feature-packed app has social media tie-ins, and a tab to call Uber, Lyft or Curb.

The checkpoint is part of the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Campaign," with funding from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
