East Bay Mom and 2 Kids Interrupt Burglary in Home
The suspect was arrested. Police said evidence from another Pleasant Hill break-in was found in the man's house.

A mother, with her two children in tow, interrupted a burglary inside her home on Tuesday, leading to the eventual arrest of the burglar, police said today.
Officers responded to a report at 6:46 p.m. of a burglary that had just occurred in the 500 block of Maureen Lane in Pleasant Hill, police said.
A woman called police to report that she came home to find a strange man in her house, police said. The man reportedly ran out of the house and jumped into a vehicle.

The woman gave Pleasant Hill police a detailed description of the man and his vehicle and police said officers were able to quickly locate it.
When the officers tried to stop the vehicle, the man drove behind a business and ran away on foot, but police said officers were able to catch up to him a short distance away. Police identified the man as Kardell Smith, 20, of Antioch.

He was arrested and booked in the Martinez Detention Facility Tuesday evening police said. Pleasant Hill police executed a search warrant at Smith’s house in Antioch.
Officers located property stolen from another Pleasant Hill resident whose home was burglarized on Feb. 22 a short distance away from Tuesday’s burglary.
