Art for Elephants, Parrots and Rhino!

Art for Elephants, Parrots and Rhinos

In conjunction with the upcoming art gallery exhibit, Spaces and Places, local mosaic artist Connie English will facilitate a free video and photo presentation of the various "places" she has traveled, while creating art and awareness for animals and conservation. This presentation takes place Wednesday, July 18 at 7:00 p.m. in the Village Theatre Art Gallery.

Her presentation will include a live Skype chat (weather in Thailand permitting) with Katherine Connor, owner of Boon Lott’s Elephant Sanctuary (BLES), and the elephants in Thailand. English will show a short video depicting her experiences there, revealing the elephant’s personalities and fun natured ways. She will also discuss how local art fundraising events in Walnut Creek recently raised $3,500. This money has been used to hire a local attorney for a USA non-profit status for the BLES sanctuary and for hiring a permaculture specialist to help their lands become more sustainable in Thailand.

English will also share stories about her involvement with Best Friends, the leading animal sanctuary for unwanted and rescued pets in the U.S.A., in addition to her upcoming trip to Zambia to create a large scale mosaic mural with the children of Chipembele. Through her art, she hopes to raise awareness about the Rhinos and their extinction in that region due to poaching.
