The Scent of Green Papaya - This 1993 Academy Award nominated film follows Mui as she grows up in pre-war Saigon. The film begins with Mui as a 10-year-old girl who's been trained to be a house servant in 1950s Vietnam. Dialogue seems almost tertiary in this film that celebrates the senses, as the young girl discovers the world around her and marvels at every new sight, sound and scent she experiences while going about her workday life.
The film will be hosted by movie buff James Keller, who will provide an engaging introduction and then share the Hollywood "back story" following the film.
