Join us for a "Sun-day" celebration!
The sun is a star, a hot ball of glowing gases at the heart of our solar system. Its influence extends far beyond the orbits of distant Neptune and Pluto; and without the sun's intense energy and heat, there would be no life on Earth. And though it is special to us here on Earth, there are billions of stars like our sun scattered across the Milky Way galaxy! Come out to the library for a Sun-day celebration on the first Sunday after the Autumnal (Fall) Equinox, the first day of Fall!
This event will include these not-to-be-missed activities, designed for all ages:
2:00-4:00 Sun-Gazing – Free/Amphitheater
*Professional and amateur astronomers will be on hand with telescopes and viewing aids to offer safe viewing for one and all to see the Sun in its glory. See sunspots, great eruptions (prominences) and other solar phenomena.
*4:00-5:00 Science Café - $5/Community Hall
Saint Mary's professor and astronomer Dr. Ron Olowin will present: "The Sun: Fun, Facts, Fads & Fallacies."
