Guinness Book of World Records Certifies Moraga Jumpers

Physical Education teacher Amber Petersen had an idea – kids like making records, why not get the kids active while pursuing one? Well, they pulled it off.

The Guinness Book of World Records officially certified Camino Pablo's pursuit of the "Mass Rope Skipping" record in conjunction with over 360 schools all around the state this summer.

The jump-o-rama was last school year, but the effort was only certified by Guinness this summer. Camino Pablo now proudly displays the banner in its multi-use room. More than 360 schools took part in the effort overall, with 338 Camino Pablo students participating.

Physical Education teacher Amber Peterson, who organized the local jump-a-thon, was working at Camino Pablo last year when her job, along with many services, was cut in response to budget duress. Luckily, the Moraga Education Foundation came through and her job and many of those services were restored.

"If it wasn't for the parents, I wouldn't have a job," Peterson said. "I'm grateful to the community for being able to be here."

And the kids are grateful to her, apparently, for getting them into the Book of World Records. The world jumping record will be part of the 2011 edition.
