House Alarm Possibly Deters Burglars In Lafayette

Lafayette police are investigating a residential burglary attempt reported Monday afternoon on Cricket Hill Road.

Officers were called to the house at approximately 1 p.m. where the security alarm was ringing and glass from the rear sliding glass door was shattered, the department said.

Police said it did not appear that entry was made inside the home, and said the activated alarm alerted a neighboring gardener, who reported seeing two male suspects running from the property. Officers found a garden stake from the backyard that was used to shatter the glass door.

The gardener told officers the first suspect, described as a black male wearing a black shirt and jeans, ran from the home toward Happy Valley Road, and was followed by a white male, wearing white cargo shorts and a red shirt, who ran while talking on a cell phone.

Police were unable to locate the suspects in the neighborhood and are seeking information from residents in the area of the intersection of Happy Valley and Upper Happy Valley. Residents are asked to review their surveillance cameras to identify suspicious persons or vehicles, and since the alarm was received by the alarm company at 12:40 p.m., the suspects would have fled the scene between 12:40 p.m. and 12:55 p.m.

It’s possible the suspects may have had a vehicle parked along Happy Valley Road near the entrance to Cricket Hill, police said. Residents who may have seen a suspicious vehicle in that area during this time are asked to contact investigators.
