Learn about career paths in federal public service at a free SMC Women's Leadership Network event on Weds. March 4, 2015 at 5:30 p.m.

The Saint Mary’s College Women’s Leadership Network and the Office of the Provost proudly present An Interview with Women in Federal Public Service. The event, which is free and open to the public, features representatives from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and United States District Court for the Northern District of California.

The distinguished panelists will discuss the career paths that led to their current positions, share their personal experiences as women in federal public service and share some of the challenges faced and lessons learned throughout their journeys.Moderated by Saint Mary’s College Provost Bethami Dobkin, the Women in Federal Public Service panel includes:

  • Tracy Basinger, Group Vice President, Division of Banking Supervision & Regulation, Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco
  • Jina Choi, Regional Director, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s San Francisco Regional Office
  • Kathy Moe, Risk Management Deputy Regional Director, San Francisco Region of the FDIC
  • Kandis Westmore, Magistrate Judge, U.S. District Court, Northern District of California

Audience members, especially Saint Mary’s alumnae, are encouraged to learn more about career paths they have not yet considered and gain advice useful to women in different stages of their careers. Representatives from each federal agency will be available after the panel to discuss employment opportunities and answer questions.

Panelist Bios:

Beth Dobkin, Panel Moderator
Bethami Dobkin, Ph.D., is the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs of Saint Mary’s College of California. She oversees the operational management of the College, with specific responsibility for academic affairs, enrollment, and student affairs.

Tracy A. Basinger, Group Vice President
Tracy Basinger joined the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco in 1989. She currently has official responsibility for the consumer compliance and CRA examination function for the 12th Federal Reserve District. In this role she is primarily responsible for ensuring that the Federal Reserve System’s Risk-Focused Supervision Program and other relevant supervisory strategies with regard to consumer compliance and CRA are effectively implemented throughout the 12th district.

Jina L. Choi, Regional Director, San Francisco Regional Office
Jina L. Choi is the Regional Director of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s San Francisco Regional Office. The Regional Office has a staff of over 110 people and is responsible for the SEC’s enforcement and examination programs in Northern California, Washington, Oregon, Montana, Idaho and Alaska with almost 1000 investment advisers (and $3.4 trillion in assets under management), almost 50 mutual fund complexes and over 250 broker-dealers located in the region.

Kathy Moe, Deputy Regional Director, San Francisco Region
Kathy Moe is the Risk Management Deputy Regional Director for the San Francisco Region of the FDIC where she is responsible for the supervision program and oversight of financial institutions in 11 States in the Western U.S. Prior to this appointment, she was Field Supervisor in the FDIC Phoenix Office for 16 years. She is a 29-year veteran with the FDIC and has worked in the Washington Headquarters Office and the Kansas City Regional Office during her tenure.

Magistrate Judge Kandis A. Westmore, U.S. District Court
The Honorable Kandis A. Westmore was appointed as a Magistrate Judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of California in 2012. She is assigned to the Oakland Division. Judge Westmore currently serves as a member of the Court’s Standing Committee on Criminal Justice Act Administration and on the Northern District’s Reentry Program, specifically tasked with establishing a reentry court in the Oakland Division.
