Lamorinda Muggles Queue Up for One Last Adventure

Lamorindans break curfew to be the first to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.

OK, so this is not the Daily Prophet, but you might as well pretend it is, for it was a very magical night for Lamorinda's wizards and muggles. Around 7 p.m., they flocked to the Orinda Theater like owls to Hogwart's to see the final Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2.

Wanting the honor of being the first muggles in line, Jenna Barker and her friends arrived at the theater at 8 a.m.

“It's gonna be sad to see the end, we grew up with Harry, when he was eleven, we were eleven,” said Barker.

The line grew to magical lengths from 20 people at 7:30 p.m. to a whopping sell-out crowd of 450 close to the midnight showtime. To keep themselves occupied, fans came prepared with all sorts of Harry potter themed goodies such as chocolate frogs, tongue-toed-toffee and let's not forget the butter beer.

While some Lamorinda fans of the film set up camp in Orinda, others shared their love for the “Boy Who Lived” with Walnut Creek and Pleasant Hill muggles.

Former Lamorinda muggle Andrea Ormonde was surprised by how the long the line was at the Walnut Creek theater as it snaked its way down California Street. Ormonde was equally impressed with the variety of costumes she saw as well as the creativity that went into them.

“There was a person dressed as a golden snitch, witches, owls, and even the restricted section,” said Ormonde.

The Pleasant Hill Century was no different with hundreds of Potter fanatics lined up to witness the magical conclusion. Among them was Lamorinda local muggle, Rahmi Alameddine, who, after the film was over at around 2:45 a.m., pronounced it "definitely one of the best Potter films."

Spanning a decade, the adventures of Harry and his friends has finally come to an end and as they say goodbye, Lamorinda muggles lifted their mugs and toasted their butter beers to a truly magical franchise.
