Lamorinda Towns Impose Curfew, Effective Immediately

In an effort to avoid the destruction seen in neighboring communities, nighttime curfews have been imposed.

LAMORINDA, CA — All three communities in Lamorinda have put nighttime curfews into effect in an effort to prevent looting and vandalism that have plagued cities to the east and west of here.

The Lafayette and Orinda curfews run from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., while Moraga's doesn't start until 9 p.m.

There are exceptions to the curfews including going to or from work, or seeking medical care.

Orinda told residents, "The Police Department is monitoring information and making preparations to keep the city safe during this challenging time. We are asking for your cooperation. Please stay home unless you need to travel for one of the authorized exceptions to the curfew order. If you see information online pertaining to potential criminal activity within the City, please obtain a screenshot and forward it to orindatip@cityoforinda.org."

In Moraga, residents residents received similar assurances, "The Moraga Police Department is working with other area law enforcement agencies and monitoring information to keep our community safe during these challenging times. However, we need your help. Please remain vigilent and report any suspicious persons who you see as well as any suspicious online activity pertaining to criminal activity. Suspicious persons should be reported by calling Dispatch at 925-284-5010. Suspicious online activity can be e-mailed to police@moraga.ca.us. For Emergencies, please call 9-1-1."

Lafayette originally had a 9 p.m. curfew, but pushed it back to 8 p.m. "Due to current conditions in Walnut Creek and protesters attempting to block I-680, effective immediately, the City of Lafayette's curfew in the commercial district has been amended to 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., each day until further notice."

Walnut Creek has endured two days of unrest, vandalism, and looting. Berkeley, Emeryville, San Leandro, Hayward, and other East Bay communities have also been hard hit.
