Mystery Solved: Lafayette Man Missing Since 1998

Do you remember the disappearance of Richard Allen Saimons? He vanished without a trace in August 1998 - until now.

LAMORINDA, CA — On August 2, 1998, Richard Allen Saimons left his Lafayette home and never returned. His loved ones filed a missing person report and hoped that someday they would get good news.

On March 16, 2017, a hiker ended all speculation about this disappearance of Saimons - his skeletal remains were found east of Rheem Blvd. and west of S. Lucille Lane. A DNA sample from the remains confirmed the discovery. "An autopsy was conducted and the cause of death was undetermined, although the forensic pathologist did not locate any signs of foul play," according to police.

Saimons was 37-years-old when he was reported missing. His family can stop wondering if Saimons is alive, but may never know how or why he died. If you can provide any insight, call Moraga Police Lt. Brian South at 925-888-7052 or the Lafayette Police at (925) 284-5010.
