One Killed In Crash Near Lafayette

The accident was Thursday afternoon.

One person was killed in a collision involving at least two cars near Lafayette this afternoon, according to a Contra Costa County Fire Protection District marshal.

Emergency medical crews responded just before 3 p.m. to a report of a collision at the intersection of Withers Avenue and Taylor Boulevard between Lafayette and Pleasant Hill, Fire Marshal Robert Marshall said.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, but Marshall said he did not yet know how many people were involved or may have been injured in the collision.

As of around 3:20 p.m., Marshall said two ambulances were still on scene. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the collision.

A CHP spokesman did not immediately return a call for more information about the incident.
