Reader Writes: Joan Buchanan Deserves Your Vote In Tuesday's Election

Dear Editor:

As a LGBT rights activist and past co-President of Marriage Equality, USA-Contra Costa Chapter, it is with much pride that I share the news that

EQCA (Equality California ) endorsed Joan Buchanan for State Senate in the upcoming Special election on March 17th 2015.

When I first met Joan Buchanan back in 2007, she was running to be our newest Assembly Member and I inquired about her position on same-sex marriage. Without missing a beat, her answer was that she believed in equal rights for all people, which delighted both my husband Steven and myself, who have been together for 28 years.

This was a pretty bold move, since Proposition 8 was being considered by the voters of California at this time. She could have taken a “safe” stance, but instead she fully supported the LGBT community and as State Senator she will continue to be a staunch advocate for LGBT rights.

For this reason and many more (protecting seniors, making college more affordable, strengthening education,) she is deserving of your vote
