Temple Isaiah Employee On Leave As Police Investigate 'Inappropriate Conduct' With Preschooler

Members of the Lafayette temple were informed this week. No charges are filed; subject to stay off facility grounds.

An employee at the Temple Isaiah in Lafayette has been instructed to stay off of temple grounds while investigators look into claims of ā€œinappropriate conductā€ with a preschool child, according to temple officials.

The temple president, along with two rabbis, signed a letter dated March 3 that went out to temple members informing them of the investigation.

ā€œIn recent days, we have received information that alleges the possibility of inappropriate conduct of a temple employee toward a student in our preschool,ā€ the letter reads.

It does not describe the conduct nor name the employee. Jen Boxerman, a spokeswoman for the temple, said the temple would not be releasing further details while police conduct an investigation.

ā€œThere are no charges made and the investigation just started, so we are not commenting beyond the statement at this time,ā€ Boxerman said.

Jimmy Lee, a spokesman for the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office, said Lafayette police are investigating the case. Lafayette contracts with the sheriff’s office for police services.

Lee said the department opened an investigation ā€œearlier this week,ā€ though he declined to comment further.

Temple officials said the matter is receiving the ā€œhighest level of attention.ā€

ā€œAs parents ourselves, we are committed to doing what you would do under the circumstances: finding out what has - or has not - happened, acting quickly and appropriately, and communicating with our entire temple community,ā€ the letter reads.

The officials said the employee was placed on leave ā€œout of an abundance of caution.ā€

ā€œWe take the allegation very seriously, but it is important to understand that the investigation is in the very preliminary stages,ā€ the letter reads.

Officials said they would update the community as more information becomes available.
