Science Cafe Presents: The Science of Violin Making

Explore the Art & Science of violin making with guest speaker Alan Copeland, an award winning violin, cello and viola maker. Copeland will discuss the recent, carefully designed studies of player preferences among old and new instruments, the use of x-ray CT scanning to understand iconic violins, and the use of modern tools in the making process.

Allen will also address the question -Why, in today’s high tech world, would someone take up violin making? What does the skilled profession look like in the 21st century?

A short cello performance will conclude the program.
