LARKSPUR-CORTE MADERA, CA – Senior citizens and people with special needs, as well as their family members and caregivers, will now have peace of mind, thanks to a new service provided by Central Marin Police Authority.

Central Marin Police Authority, which serves Corte Madera, Larkspur, San Anselmo and portions of Greenbrae, recently launched its Special Needs Registry, a voluntary program that aims to assist officers with recognizing and responding to community members with special needs.

Police invite residents to register a family member of any age who may require special assistance in an emergency or any other encounter.

“Having information and a photograph of the registered person available will greatly aid the police department should an Alzheimer’s patient or special needs person go missing,” police said in a statement. “Sometimes officers are called to assist a lost senior citizen or dependent person, and often these individuals are disoriented or unable to remember their name or where they live. Registry information could help officers to quickly identify the person and return them safely home.”

Registry information includes personal descriptors, medical information, emergency contact numbers for relatives, and a current photo of the person registered. Police said information remains confidential and will only be accessed by law enforcement in order to locate or return a loved one.
