Dog Killed, Pedestrian Critically Injured In Corte Madera Crash
The 74 year-old woman, a San Rafael resident, was hit by a car while crossing the street against a red light, according to police.

CORTE MADERA, CA – A dog was killed and a pedestrian was critically injured while crossing an intersection against a red light this weekend in Corte Madera, according to officials.
An Audi A4 traveling westbound on Tamalpais Drive struck a female pedestrian and her dog who were crossing the street at the Eastman Avenue intersection around 6:40 p.m. Saturday, according to Central Marin Police Authority.
The driver, an 85 year-old San Rafael resident, said he was driving through the intersection on a green light when the collision occurred, said Central Marin police spokeswoman Margo Rohrbacher. Statements from several witnesses confirmed that the pedestrian was walking from the south side of the street in the crosswalk but crossing against a red light.

The 74 year-old woman, also a San Rafael resident, was taken to Marin General Hospital and later transferred to Stanford Hospital for further treatment, Rohrbacher said. The dog died at the scene.
A portion of Tamalpais Drive was closed for several hours and reopened at 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

The incident is still under investigation. At this time, alcohol, drugs and cell phone use do not appear to be a factor in the collision, according to police.
