Bernard Maybeck: Architect of Elegance with Mark Wilson, Author and Architectural Historian

Architectural historian, Mark A. Wilson will talk about his new book, “Bernard Maybeck: Architect of Elegance” and present a slide show of Maybeck’s work, followed by question and answer session. Bernard Ralph Maybeck was an architect in the Arts and Crafts Movement of the early 20th century. He was a professor at University of California, Berkeley. Many of his major buildings were in the San Francisco Bay Area. Maybeck was a leading pioneer in sustainable architecture, or what we now call green design. Wilson has been writing and teaching about Bernard Maybeck’s work for thirty-five years. He has written two previous books about Bay Area architecture and teaches Art and Architecture at UC-Berkeley Extension and Santa Rosa Junior College. Wilson's 22-year friendship with Bernard Maybeck's daughter-in-law, Jacomena Maybeck, gave him unique insights into the life and work of one of America's most important architects.
