Jaywalking Concerns Near Larkspur Ferry Terminal Prompt Warning

"It's tempting to cut across the road when you're in a rush, but it's just not worth the risk."

LARKSPUR, CA — Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District officials on Thursday warned Larkspur Ferry riders to avoid jaywalking near the terminal and to instead take the extra time to use the crosswalk when parking.

The agency released the following statement:

Every day, hundreds of Golden Gate Ferry passengers park in the overflow lot across the street from the Larkspur Ferry Terminal. Then, to shave a minute or two off their walk to the terminal, some customers jaywalk across Larkspur Landing Circle instead of using the crosswalk.

Jaywalking at this location is dangerous as there’s a bend in the road that limits line of sight for both motorists and pedestrians. Jaywalking is also illegal under California Vehicle Code 21955.
Golden Gate Ferry and the City of Larkspur have posted notices to remind people to stay safe on their walk to the Ferry Terminal and back to their vehicles.

“Give yourself another minute or two to walk to the crosswalk, cross with the light, and use the sidewalks when walking to and from the ferry,” advises Priya Clemens, spokesperson for Golden Gate Ferry. “It’s tempting to cut across the road when you’re in a rush, but it’s just not worth the risk.”
