Larkspur Ferry Expansion Plans Call For More Trips, Parking
A draft environmental report outlines potential terminal improvements as transportation officials seek public feedback.
LARKSPUR, CA — Plans to expand Larkspur Ferry service could increase daily crossings from 42 to as many as 76 while adding thousands of parking spaces and improving connections for bus, rail and bicycle commuters.
The Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District released a draft environmental impact report outlining options for expanding service and improving access to the terminal.
The proposal would increase ferry trips gradually through 2050 based on demand, with the goal of accommodating more passengers and reducing traffic congestion along Highway 101.

Two alternatives call for new multilevel parking structures, including an 850-space garage in the north lot. The options differ in the size of a second garage in the main lot and the transportation improvements that would accompany it.
One alternative includes a main-lot garage with 3,998 spaces. The other proposes a smaller 3,258-space garage, along with shuttle service and a bicycle hub with 350 spaces.

The study also considers improvements to pedestrian access, connections with Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit and facilities for bicycles and electric scooters.
Transportation officials have not approved construction of the proposed garages or other improvements. The environmental review examines potential impacts and alternatives before the district makes decisions about the project.
Residents can submit comments on the draft report through Dec. 7. The district will also hold a public meeting Thursday, Nov. 5, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Larkspur Library, 10 Rose Lane.
