Man Killed In Crash On Highway 101 In Corte Madera

Firefighters from the Central Marin and San Rafael fire departments had to cut the sedan open to remove the driver, officials said.

CORTE MADERA, CA – A man died this weekend when his sedan went off southbound U.S. Highway 101 at the Tamalpais Drive overcrossing in Corte Madera and ran into a tree, the California Highway Patrol said.

The accident was reported about 2 p.m. Saturday, when the southbound car driven by an "older" man veered off the freeway, struck a guardrail and then a tree, said CHP Officer Andrew Barclay. No one else was in the car, he added.

Firefighters from the Central Marin and San Rafael fire departments had to cut the sedan open to remove the driver, who was taken to Marin General Hospital in Greenbrae, where he died before 5 p.m. Barclay said he did not have the driver's name.

The cause of the accident remained unknown Saturday evening.

"There don't appear to be any obvious causes, so we're hoping to speak with witnesses about what they may have seen," Barclay said. It is possible the driver may have suffered some sort of medical event, he added.
