Marin CHP, Central Police Authority Issue 41 Distracted Driving Tickets in Two Hours

Authorities say it was part of a distracted driver campaign.

MARIN COUNTY, CA- Dozens of drivers were issued tickets last week, as local law enforcement officers carried out a "zero tolerance" distracted driver enforcement operation in Marin, according to the CHP.

CHP Officer Andrew Barclay says that on Thursday, between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., officers from the California Highway Patrol's Marin area station and Central Marin Police Authority sought out distracted drivers along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. When the operation was over, 41 drivers had been cited for using a cell phone "in a non-hands free manner" or texting while behind the wheel.

"This joint operation was conducted as part of Distracted Driving awareness month," Barclay said in a news release.

Barclay said April 20 is another 'zero tolerance' day when the agencies will be "especially vigilant" for distracted drivers.

"Through education and enforcement, law enforcement agencies across California hope to bring attention to the dangers of distracted driving," he said.
