Occupant Of Honda Found Dead After Fiery Crash

The vehicle appeared to have drifted off the road and hit a tree early Monday, officials said.

CORTE MADERA, CA – The body of a deceased individual was found Monday morning in a Honda that crashed into a tree and caught fire in Corte Madera, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP officers, along with the Central Marin Fire Department, were called at about 2:19 a.m. to southbound U.S. Highway 101 at the Tamalpais Drive overpass where the sedan was on the right shoulder and engulfed in flames.

When the fire was extinguished, the body was located inside the car, according to the agency.

Investigators said it appeared the vehicle "drifted off the freeway and struck a tree on the right shoulder prior to catching fire," officials said. "It has yet to be determined what caused the Honda to leave the roadway, however it does not appear any other vehicles were involved."

The person's name was withheld pending family notification.
