Dear Granada Park Community Members:

Over the past several years, the Town of Corte Madera and Sanitary District No. 2 (SD2) staff have been evaluating the conditions of the sanitary sewer and roadway facilities in your neighborhood. Based on a comprehensive review of a variety of conditions that contribute to declining conditions, the Town and the Sanitary District and are preparing to initiate two separate Capital Improvement Projects dedicated to rehabilitating this aging infrastructure. This is consistent with similar projects that have taken place in Corte Madera and completed in 2019 and 2020. Starting sometime in late spring of 2021, SD2 plans to construct extensive repairs to the sewer mains in your area, which will involve excavating and replacing segments of old or damaged underground pipeline. Following the 2021 sewer main repair project in your neighborhood, and as early as spring of 2022, the Town plans to resurface the roadways and install ADA accessible curb ramps at the impacted intersections.

In conjunction with the roadway construction project, Town staff has begun coordinating with representatives in your neighborhood to also look at “traffic calming” and other potential improvements as we enter the design phase of this project.  In the fall of 2020, Town staff and the Central Marin Police Authority performed a review and analysis of the traffic speeds and conditions in the area. Staff met with key neighborhood representatives and began discussing existing conditions and how we may best implement new safety enhancements with the upcoming improvement project. In response to the collaborative efforts by Town Staff, CMPA, and your neighborhood representatives, Town staff hired a traffic engineering consulting firm, Parisi Transportation, to develop traffic calming concepts to further contribute to this neighborhood discussion. To date, we have identified traffic calming measures to improve the main corridor into the neighborhood on El Camino between Paradise Drive and Granada Drive. The Town would like to engage the community in thoughtful discussions about the potential traffic calming concepts that have been identified for this neighborhood.

You’re invited to attend to an upcoming neighborhood workshop via Zoom on Wednesday February 10th, between 3pm – 4pm to discuss these conceptual plans and alternatives.
