Water Pipe Replacement Begins in Corte Madera
Construction is expected to last through September.

By Bay City News Service:
The Marin Municipal Water District is replacing nearly a mile of old, leaky and worn water pipes in Mill Valley and Corte Madera.
The new pipes will be better able to withstand an earthquake and improve flow to fight fires, water district spokeswoman Emma Detwiler said.
Michael Paul Company of Petaluma was awarded the bid to replace the pipes in five Mill Valley neighborhoods and one in Corte Madera for $563,000. Construction is expected to last through September.
Some of the pipes were installed as far back as 1895, Detwiler said. Traffic along Corte Madera, Molino and Montford avenues, Reed Street and Rainbow Lane in Mill Valley and Chapman Drive in Corte Madera will be impacted by the pipe replacement.
The pipe replacement will be completed before repaving of Chapman Drive, and Corte Madera and Molino avenues.
A $75 annual parcel tax that will finance the project has supported $86 million in fire flow and seismic-related improvements and replacement of 76 miles of pipe between 1997 and June 2014 in the district's 147-square-mile service area, Detwiler said.
