The First Meeting of the Lemon Grove Organic Edibles Garden Club Was A Smashing Success!

Garden and Food Lovers met up for the first time in beautiful Lemon Grove.

Sixteen organic gardeners, from beginners to long time experts; from balcony gardeners to owners of large propertie—60 acres took first place here—came out this beautiful, sunny Monday morning to kick off the Garden Club to a great start.

We took some time to introduce ourselves and our hopes for this group and then took a tour of the garden, bowls in hand, to either gather ingredients for the salad and green smoothies we were having for lunch or, the simplest solution, just snack right off the plants. For some, this was their first edible flower, fresh Goji berries, or tiny alpine strawberries tasting.

Shaking the mulberries out of the tree was lots of fun, too. Four people holding a large bedsheet on each corner trying to catch the berries raining down while two were madly shaking the tree.

We also took a look at the newly installed "laundry to landscape" watersystem which had just been installed the day before—but more about that in a seperate blog.

Filled bowls in hand, we went right to the serious business of eating the harvest and the treats members had brought from home. Honorable mentioning goes to delicious home grown macademia nuts and to a scrumptious dessert we are all trying to get the recipe for.
