City Council to Consider Banquet Hall Names Suggested by Public

Following an that produced more than four dozen names for the banquet hall at the Lemon Grove Senior Center, the City Council will tonight consider which one to choose for the venue.

In an effort to attract more revenue for Lemon Grove through better marketing of its rental facilities, the city is giving a name to the 3,000-square-foot center that will look better on invitations.

Currently, those who book the hall for a special event must list “Lemon Grove Senior Center” on their invites. Feedback the city has received indicates the name is unappealing to those who are planning celebrations such as a wedding reception, baby shower or seminar.

The space was recently renovated and can seat 200 people banquet style or 300 people theater style. It has a fully equipped kitchen, and an expanse of large French doors opening out onto a spacious, landscaped patio. The rental fees range from $800 to $1,030.

The city’s other rental facilities include the Community Center on School Lane, the H. Lee House and Courtyard at Civic Center Park, the recreation center gym, and gazebos located at the Berry Street and Lemon Grove parks.

The person who first suggested the name that gets chosen by the council will receive a $50 gift certificate from Lido’s Italian Restaurant.

In other business Tuesday, the council will:

• Conduct a public hearing and consider authorizing the submittal of the Draft Housing Element;

• And receive and file the Mayor’s two appointments to the Oversight Board of the former Lemon Grove Community Development Agency.

The council meets the first and third Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. at the Community Center, School Lane.
