DUI Checkpoints - STOP IT!

Thank you Lemon Grove Patch for "warning" us that the police force designed to "serve and protect" us will be out and about this weekend prowling the public.

Here's the issue at hand.

It's not that we want the drinkers of the world to be roaming the streets in their killing machines.
We don't want drunk drivers harming themselves, other people or property.
The issue is - the checkpoints target everyone and anyone moving through a certain part of town.

Once upon a time, the founders of the country had enough of the surveillance and undue injustice of the British Crown and decided "hey, let's start over!"
Finding a big chunk of otherwise inhabited land (well sorta) off to the west, they established the country with certain inalienable human rights that stood as our foundation. The one pertinent to this discussion - probable cause.

There must be a "probable cause" for the government or police force to do any sort of search or seizure.

So now, in California anyhooo, we have the good guy cops out to smoke out the bad guys.
And who may those bad guys be? ANYONE driving down the street!
Once police make the public the bad guys, then there are no good guys.

Whereas some US states have caught on to the disgusting duty of "DUI checkpoints" and squelched it as "unconstitutional," we here in CA and lovely Lemon Grove have to put up with a basically unlawful (Constitutionally speaking) activity.

Instead of heeding the warning about DUI checkpoints, I will take this story as a "call to action" for us to contact local and federal representatives reminding them of who truly owns this country - the people - and what we are standing on - a foundation based on principles of civil liberty.
