In East County Movie Theaters: 'Drive'

Acclaim is mounting for Drive, which won Danish filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn the best director award at the Cannes  Film Festival in May. From Elle to Rolling Stone, the movie is being called brilliant, elegant and cool.

Ryan Gosling is a cool-as-a-cryogenically-frozen-cucumber stunt driver living life in Hollywood's fast lane—movie wheelman by day, getaway car driver by night. He voice-overs in the preview:

“If I drive for you, you give me a time and a place. I give you a 5-minute window, anything happens in that 5 minutes and I'm yours no matter what. I don't sit in while you're running it down;

I don't carry a gun... I drive.”

What could possibly go wrong? Well, a heist, a lovely neighbor, and a big pile of cash complicate things in bloody fashion while Gosling steers through the mayhem. Some critics call the violence increasingly grotesque and graphic—others say Refn is no Tarantino.

Taut, intense and dark, the film is brimming with plenty of fast and furious action. Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night.
