Mount Miguel Girls Claim Yet Another Hoop Crown
A 71-42 win at Santana makes Matador coach Robby Sandoval 11 for 11 in league titles at the school and 100-1 in league play.
There is no better way to label it – Mount Miguel High girls basketball coach Robby Sandoval has created a dynasty at the Spring Valley school.
In his 11 seasons as Mount Miguel’s head coach, Sandoval’s teams have captured 11 Grossmont League championships. The Matadors locked up their latest crown Friday by smacking Santana 71-42.
Even more stunning among Sandoval's statistical achievements is an astounding 100-1 record in 11 years of league competition.

“I didn’t even know that until you just told me,” Sandoval said. “That’s cool, but right now we’re just trying to work toward the playoffs. Those numbers are a good accomplishment for our program.
“I think it says more about the kids who have come through our program than it does about me.”

UNLV-bound senior Danielle Miller scored a game-high 28 points to pace the Matadors (18-7, 7-0 GVL).
Junior Shay Young produced 20 points and senior guard Myishia Watkins chipped in with 13 points and 14 assists for Mount Miguel.
“Coach Robbie never talks about himself or his records,” Watkins said. “I didn’t know he was going for 100 until right before the game.”
The Matadors dribbled out to an 8-0 lead and never looked back against the Sultans (10-12, 3-3 GVL).
Sammy White led Santana with 18 points – half of her markers coming from long distance. Haley Burton added 11 points for the Sultans.
Santana closes the regular season with home games against Monte Vista (Tuesday) and El Capitan (Friday). Mount Miguel’s finale is Friday at El Cajon Valley.
