Update 2: La Mesa Teen Arrested in Death of Taxi Driver

A 19-year-old La Mesan was arrested Wednesday in connection with the Lemon Grove slaying of taxi driver Jalaludin Hamrah on Sunday.

According to the county Sheriff’s Department, Demetrius Sissac of La Mesa was booked into San Diego Central Jail at 8:15 p.m. on a charge of first-degree murder. No bail was allowed.

His arraignment is set for 1:30 p.m. Friday in El Cajon Superior Court.

Hamrah, 39, was found in his rolled over cab suffering from a gunshot wound early Sunday morning in the 3400 block of Main Street, authorities said. He was pulled from the wrecked vehicle by the Lemon Grove Fire Department, and paramedics began lifesaving efforts. But the taxi driver died at the scene.

Channel 10 News, quoting “sources,” reported late Wednesday that officers with the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force arrested Sissac in connection with the shooting death of Hamrah.
 
“Sources told 10News as the men got out of the cab, Hamrah made a snide remark, so Sissac shot him,” the ABC station’s website reported.

10News said deputies found Sissac after seeing surveillance video from the Lemon Grove Depot at 3443 Main St.

The ABC affiliate also reported that sheriff’s homicide detectives later came out of Sissac’s home with several brown bags of evidence.

Court records show Sissac has a criminal record from May 2011.

Meanwhile, Channel 8 News reported that Sissac was arrested at an apartment in the 4800 block of Jessie Avenue near El Cajon Boulevard in west La Mesa shortly after 7 Wednesday night, quoting homicide Lt. Larry Nesbit.

Channel 8, the CBS affiliate, said La Mesa police assisted San Diego Sheriff's Department investigators with the search warrant.
