Thrive Lemon Grove, Walk San Diego, the San Diego Sheriff’s Department, elected officials, community members and other local public agencies will be hosting a free holiday social to celebrate the winter season and have a discussion to promote walking and safety in Lemon Grove. The event will take place on Friday, December 13, 2013 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Union Bank, located at 3285 Lemon Grove Ave. in Lemon Grove.
Thrive Lemon Grove and Union Bank are sponsoring the event to bring community members together and enjoy an evening of treats, prizes and holiday information, as well as other helpful tips such as walking to school safety, and how to stay safe during the holidays. Additionally, Walk San Diego will be presenting the Lemon Grove Safe Routes to School Program: Lemon Grove Kids Walk and Roll to School.
“Thrive Lemon Grove is really aiming to bring the community together to work towards a new city, so we thought a holiday mixer would be the perfect way to do that. We really wanted start off the new year with some excitement and momentum to make change in Lemon Grove,” Lemon Grove Councilmember Racquel Vasquez said.

Attendees will enjoy holiday cookies and lemonade as well as a prize drawing with donated items from local businesses and agencies. Additionally, community information tables will be present to answer any questions about plans for the upcoming year.
“I think this event is going to be great. Thrive Lemon Grove is only a year old and this is our first holiday social. There’s a lot to celebrate because the organization has gained a lot of members and recognition. This is the beginning of being able to take steps toward improving public safety and growing the economy in Lemon Grove,” Lemon Grove Councilmember George Gastil said.
