Flynn Fire Contained Near Livermore

LIVERMORE, CA — Firefighting crews have contained a vegetation fire from Tuesday night caused by a car fire that spread to 121 acres near Altamont Pass. Fire officials said that no structures or high-tension power lines were damaged.

Cal Fire first reported the Flynn Fire around 6 p.m. Tuesday at North Flynn Road near Altamont, when it had already spread to 15 to 20 acres. An Alameda County Fire official said that the fire was started by a car on fire on I-580. A portion of I-580 was closed Tuesday night before midnight, when the fire was 80 percent contained.

Cal Fire said crews had stopped forward progress of the fire just after 7 p.m., when the blaze had spread to 120 acres after an “aggressive initial attack” amidst steep terrain and windy conditions. Cal Fire worked with Alameda County Fire and the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department to fight the blaze.

Crews are engaged in “extensive” mop-up Wednesday.
