Counterfeit Cash Operation Near Livermore Outlets Leads To 7 Arrests: Police

LIVERMORE, CA — Seven men were arrested on suspicion of using counterfeit money at several stores at the San Francisco Premium Outlets, according to the Livermore Police Department.

On Sept. 4 at around 12:30 p.m, mall security contacted the Livermore Police Department after two men reportedly passed counterfeit money at several stores, police said. Security followed the men to a nearby hotel, and provided their location to officers.

Officers detained the two men, who reportedly both had outstanding warrants and were on Post-Release Community Supervision. Police searched the hotel room, and said they uncovered equipment and materials used to produce counterfeit currency, in addition to methamphetamine suspected of being possessed for sale.

Investigators believe the group was producing counterfeit $50 and $100 bills they planned to use at the outlets over the weekend.

Following the investigation, a total of seven people were arrested on suspicion of various offenses, including counterfeiting, possessing counterfeiting equipment, possession of methamphetamine for sale, and outstanding warrants. Authorities did not specify which allegations applied to each person.
