Arrest Made In Livermore Hit-And-Run That Seriously Injured Bicyclist

LIVERMORE, CA — Livermore police arrested a Modesto man suspected of injuring a 64-year-old man and fleeing the scene.

On Aug. 15 at approximately 9:54 p.m., police responded to a report of a man lying unconscious in the bicycle lane on southbound Isabel Avenue, south of the Stanley Boulevard connector, according to the Livermore Police Department. Officers located a 64-year-old Livermore man who had sustained serious injuries. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Police put out a call seeking help identifying the driver. Following an investigation, LPD Traffic Unit investigators determined that the cyclist had been struck by a vehicle whose driver fled the scene without stopping, providing assistance, or reporting the collision.

Investigators identified 44-year-old Brian Callaway of Modesto as the suspect. On Sept. 5, Callaway was arrested at his home on suspicion of felony hit-and-run causing injury and booked into Santa Rita Jail, police said.

The case has been forwarded to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office for review and charging.
