$8 Million Grant to Fund STEM Programs

Chancellor of the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District: how it will help student.

On a new edition of “The Ed Zone,” Dr. Marshall Kamena, TV30 Foundation President, interviews Dr. Jannett Jackson, Chancellor of the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District. The show focuses on the Diablo Gateways to Innovation Consortium’s $8 million grant. It is an unprecedented recent award by the California Department of Education. The 30-minute program, sponsored by the TV30 Foundation, is currently airing on TV28 and 30.

According to Dr. Kamena, “The educational community is excited about this long awaited approach to career education with practical applications of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). This integration of students with a dedicated curriculum involving specialists in technology transfer, business and industry is blazing a trail to the mission of the iGATE and Innovation Tri-Valley organizations.”

The grant is part of the State’s Career Pathways Trust program. It is designed to keep students in school and move them toward college and high-demand fields. They are advanced manufacturing and engineering, information communication technology, and health science. Grants from the Trust go toward innovative programs and partnerships linking rigorous academics to career pathways in high-need and high-growth sectors of the economy.
