80-Acre Fire Burns Near Altamont Pass, Road Closed

LIVERMORE, CA — Firefighters have stopped forward progress on a fire that grew to 80 acres off Altamont Pass Road, near Dyer Road, according to the California Highway Patrol. Altamont Pass Road is closed as of about 2:45 p.m. Sunday, and is expected to reopen within two hours, CHP said.

The fire began at about 12:45 p.m. and started at around three to five acres, according to Cal Fire. It grew to 80 acres by about 1 p.m., and forward progress was stopped at 1:20 p.m., according to the Watch Duty app, citing incident command.

Crews continue to monitor hot spots. I-580 remains open, though lanes are affected, according to 511.org. Traffic is slow in the westbound lane near Altamont, but moving normally in the eastbound lane.
