LIVERMORE, CA — Concannon Vineyard will host its first Memorial Appreciation Day Sunday, which will feature music, ice cream, food trucks, and even a helicopter landing.
The ceremony will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Concannon Vineyard estate. Guests are invited to bring a blanket or lawn chair and relax on the lawn, where they can enjoy food, display fire trucks, live music from DJ Ryan Schaaf, and wine. The day will mark the debut of the Meadowlark Dairy Truck, which will bring beloved Meadowlark soft-serve ice creams and other sweet treats. The Pacific Drip Kitchen food truck will bring everything from poke bowls to teriyaki plates to poke nachos, while the Essen food truck will serve German food like bratwurst, schnitzel, and currywurst fries.
Wine from Concannon will also be available by the bottle and by the glass.
At 1 p.m., a helicopter will land on the property in tribute to the sacrifices made by American soldiers. Concannon Vineyard owner Tom Lemmons is a decorated U.S. Army pilot who flew combat operations as an assault and medevac pilot in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Africa. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal with Valor, Air Medal (4th Award), Meritorious Service Medal, and the Rescue of the Year Award.
“Service stays with you,” Lemmons said in a statement. “After my time in the Army, it’s important to me to continue supporting the people who serve our community every day. This event is a small way for us to say thank you—to the police officers, firefighters, and first responders who protect Livermore and to the community that stands behind them.”
Livermore Mayor John Marchand, Livermore Police Chief Jeramy Young, and LPFD Chief Aaron Lacey will also be present.
The event is free to the public, and seating is first come, first served.
On Monday, VFW Livermore Valley Post 7265 will host a traditional Memorial Day ceremony at Stockmen’s Park lasting from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. The ceremony will feature a Presentation of Colors, a singing of the national anthem, a guest speaker, a wreath laying ceremony, a moment of silence, and a rifle volley and taps.
