Centennial Light Bulb Celebrated at Livermore Fire Station Event

The community is invited to celebrate its first one million hours of service.

Possibly the most famous light bulb in the world has been burning in a Livermore fire station for more than 100 years, and officials there are preparing to celebrate its first one million hours of service on Saturday, June 27. The Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department event at Fire Station Six celebrating the Centennial Light Bulb will include vintage firefighting equipment, a history mobile, a fire safety house, music, items for sale and a barbecue.

The event will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The light bulb has burned since 1901, when it was first installed at a fire department hose cart house on L Street. It has been moved several times since then, and is currently connected to a separate power source, according to a web site maintained by the Livermore Lightbulb Centennial Committee.

Fire officials told Patch in a previous article the light appeared to be out when the uninterrupted power supply had failed. Once fire crews swapped the power source, the light was back on.
