CERT Training Sign-Ups Underway In Livermore & Pleasanton

Join hands-on training for fires, disasters & search-rescue missions as part of the volunteer Community Emergency Response Team.

LIVERMORE-PLEASANTON, CA — The Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department is taking registrations for its upcoming Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training that runs Sept. 27 to Nov. 1 for locals interested in being emergency-response volunteers.

The seven classes are free and open to those who live and/or work in Livermore and Pleasanton.

Attendees will gain hands-on, disaster preparedness skills for such scenarios as fires, medical operations and search-and-rescue missions, along with disaster psychology and terrorism, according to the agency.

Classes run Tuesdays evenings, 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., plus Saturday, Oct. 15 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Pleasanton’s Operations Service Center and the LPFD training grounds on Busch Road in Pleasanton.

The seven-session program culminates in a LPFD and CERT drill, putting what participants have learned into practice, the department said.

"When a disaster, such as a major earthquake strikes, emergency responders will be focused on the most critical emergencies," the department added. "Fortunately, there are many things that residents can do to help themselves, their families, and the community around them, leading up to and following a disaster."
