From Las Positas College: Citizens within the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District are invited to apply to serve on the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District's Measure "A & B" Citizens' Bond Oversight Committee. Applications are available here and are being accepted now through January 20, 2017.
As provided by law, the Citizens' Oversight Committee provides oversight to ensure that bond revenues are expended only for the purposes authorized by law. To be considered for appointment, applicants are required to complete the application form, have a strong sense of civic responsibility, a high regard for community college education, and meet the stated qualifications. Nominations must be received by 5:00 p.m. on January 20, 2017. Committee appointments will be confirmed by the Board of Trustees. Committee members serve for an initial term of two years. Meetings convene once a quarter.
The Measure B bond measure was passed by district voters in 2004. The $498 million general obligation facilities bond allowed the district to implement a capital improvement program for Chabot College in Hayward and Las Positas College in Livermore. Measure B provided for the repair of leaky roofs, worn wiring, and plumbing; renovation of aging, deteriorating classrooms and libraries; and repaired, acquired, constructed, and equipped college buildings and computer labs.

"As Measure B approaches its sunset, we are grateful for the voters' continued support. The recent passage of Measure A in June 2016, a $950M bond measure, will allow the college campuses to continue to upgrade classrooms, facilities and technology and expand access to training programs that help students, including our returning veterans, learn new skills and find better-paying jobs in high-demand industries," said Dr. Jackson. "Our Citizens' Oversight Committee plays a key role in the oversight and management of our bond programs."
