LIVERMORE, CA — Generous community donations are helping Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District students learn.

The Rotary Club of Livermore Valley, the Livermore Rotary Club, and the Livermore Valley Education Foundation recently awarded $12,000 in community grants to LVJUSD educators.

The grants support student learning through the purchase of diverse and historical novels, science and STEM-related tools, visual performing arts materials, culinary arts education materials, and supplemental curriculum, according to the district.

The district has also partnered with the Livermore Shakespeare Festival and the So Wise So Young program to introduce William Shakespeare to LVJUSD second grade students. The program involves actor-educators working with students each week to bring Shakespeare to life.

The program is made possible, in large part, through the financial support of the Livermore Valley Education Foundation and the Real Estate Alliance of Livermore.

"Both groups are generous partners of our district and are committed to supporting our students," according to the district. "As students are introduced to William Shakespeare and his history, they concurrently are increasing language skills, comprehending key details in a text, improving the expression of ideas through drama, writing and reading, developing imagination, and relating key themes in Shakespeare’s work to their own lives."
