Coroner ID's Livermore Woman Killed On Roadway
The 78-year-old resident was struck after crashing her vehicle.
LIVERMORE, CA — A 78-year-old Livermore woman who crashed her vehicle and survived the impact, but died after being struck by oncoming traffic, has been identified.
Sydney Gay Bettencourt was pronounced dead at the scene Friday evening on First Street at Larch Lane, according to the coroner's bureau.
At approximately 5:30 p.m., Bettencourt was driving southbound on First Street and collided with and onto the center median. She was the only person in the vehicle, and no other cars were involved in the crash.

She got out of her vehicle and walked to a sidewalk. But just a short time later and "for an unknown reason" Bettencourt walked back toward her crashed vehicle and was struck by a northbound motorist; she was not in a crosswalk, according to Livermore police Sgt. Steven Goard.
The adult male driver from Livermore who struck Bettencourt cooperated with police. Speed, drugs, and alcohol have been ruled out as crash factors, Goard said.
