Curious About Livermore Police? Join The Citizens Police Academy
Applications are now being accepted for the 37th academy that begins Feb. 5.
LIVERMORE, CA — Get a unique inside look at the Livermore Police Department and the law enforcement community by applying for the upcoming Citizens Police Academy that runs February 5 through June 3.
"By presenting the functions, capabilities and limitations of the department, this course helps to increase the level of trust, respect and sense of understanding and awareness between the department and the community we serve," according to Livermore police.
Academy participants will be presented with a variety of topics, including: patrol operations, communications, evidence collection, hiring and recruitment, traffic, animal control, laws of arrest, search and seizure, use of force, investigations, crime analysis, police procedures, ethical issues, and many others.

Class sessions are held every Wednesday evening, 6-9:30 p.m., at the Livermore Police Department headquarters, 1110 S Livermore Ave. There are no physical requirements for most activities, and no costs charged to participants.
The sessions are designed to encourage student interactions that involve asking questions and performing hands-on activities. A tour of the police facility and patrol equipment is included in the first session. There will also be opportunities for ride-alongs with patrol officers and sit-alongs with police dispatchers.

Each session will be taught by a member of the Livermore Police Department who has special expertise and years of practical experience in his/her respective subject. Participants will have the opportunity to meet Livermore Chief of Police Michael Harris and other members of the management staff.
Once students have successfully completed the academy, they are welcome to join the Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association. These citizens are the primary source of police department volunteers, who continue to support and assist the department in various community events and activities.
