Day of Giving to Raise $25K for Las Positas College Foundation

The Las Positas College Foundation will join #GivingTuesday on November 29th, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide.The Las Positas College Foundation Board of Directors has set a goal of raising $25,000 to support scholarships and services for the students of Las Positas College (LPC). The Foundation was created to help ensure that LPC continues to be a premier community college that serves the greater Tri-Valley community.

"Putting students at the center of our effort, the Foundation established the hashtag #GivingHawksDay as a way for our students, alumni and community to show their support as we raise funds on November 29," said Kenneth Cooper, Las Positas College Foundation executive director.

#GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to kick-off the holiday giving season, inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities, and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.

Las Positas College is an affordable gateway to higher education and a college degree for many Tri-Valley residents. Examples of the impact of the Foundation are the award-winning Debate Team (TalkHawks), Veterans First Program, the 2Gen Fund Program (financial support for early childhood development) and Math Jam, a program that helps student succeed at all levels of mathematics.

"As a veteran and committed full-time student, I thought I'd hit the jackpot when I enrolled at Las Positas College," said Roxanne C. about the Engineering Technology Program for Veterans. "The Veterans First Program in conjunction with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory is wonderful and afforded me a chance to fulfill my dream of becoming an engineer."
